Clinical Pilates
Rehabilitation for chronic injuries, body aches and pains, movement and postural dysfunctions
What is Clinical Pilates?
Clinical Pilates uses the principles and exercises of Pilates to rehabilitate the body whether its dysfunction is from an injury or longstanding dysfunction. Most often injuries are caused by muscle imbalances in the body and habitual patterns of movement in the population today. Hence, it is crucial to correct the misalignment and re-educate the body to prevent recurrence and obtain a balanced aligned body. Through Pilates and its focus on the concentration of precision of movement, awareness of breathing and a smooth flowing movement, it will be able to alter the abnormal pattern of movement and expand the effect greatly into daily living activities. The focus of Clinical Pilates is on injury prevention and rehabilitation, core stability, muscle balance, strength, flexibility, breathing and efficient movement.
Joanne Weber, BSPE, B.Sc.P.T.
Joanne is a licensed physical therapist, graduating from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor’s of Physical Education in 1997 and a Bachelor’s of Physiotherapy in 1999. She has since completed post graduate training in manual therapy, foot and ankle biomechanics, orthotic therapy, posture, movement and stability dysfunction, and Stott Rehabilitative Pilates.
Since graduating, Joanne has worked at Daniels Kimber Physiotherapy Clinic in Saskatoon. Her experience working with a diverse array of clients has taught her that to achieve optimal function and performance you must look at the whole body. You must teach and train it to work in proper alignment using each muscle as it is intended. Since discovering pilates, it is the main modality she now uses in rehab as it encompasses all the principles she has come to believe in. Her philosophy centers on promoting health and wellness through education and specific exercise.
Your first session with Joanne will consist of an evaluation, to determine injury prevention and/or rehab exercise goals. Subsequent sessions will provide private exercise instruction, creating a dynamic program that is modified and progressed to fit your needs and goals. Your program will be prescriptive, fully supervised and specific for your needs since Joanne will help you achieve your healthy, fitness goals. Your exercise program will be designed with your future needs in mind and may include the use of mat, reformer, barrel, balance, free weights, theraband, and/or gym ball equipment. When Joanne feels that you are ready you will be referred to other community services (if desired) for ongoing exercise instruction & training.
All sessions are private and are 55 minutes long. It is suggested that you participate in the prescribed exercises two to three times per week. This may be done with Joanne at the studio or at home as homework with follow-ups one time per week.
Cost is $80 per session. Many private health insurance plans cover the cost of physiotherapy. Check your plan to find out your coverage.
Available times at Saskatoon Pilates Centre for bookings with Joanne are Tuesday and Friday evenings. Please call for more information or to book an appointment: 381-8025.
